Approached with a problem…
In the course, Topics in Design, we were approached by the company Alcon to help find out what Gen Z's perceptions, attitudes, and usage of eye care are. After we conducted our research, we were then tasked with designing a concept or product that helps to solve a top problem based on our research. Throughout this semester, I had the opportunity to work with industry professionals as well as an amazing group of designers.

As always, we start with research.
For the first 4 weeks, my team and I were able to create a survey that asked about students' perceptions of their own eye care. We were able to gather over 200 responses! After this, my team and I conducted 10 interviews in total to gain an even deeper insight into what Gen Z thinks about eye care. During this process, we were also able to conduct online research, netnography research, and competitive analyses. From there were were able to point out a problem that we needed to solve.
Our problem statement
When young adults are ignorant of preventative eye health knowledge, they want to learn about their eye health easily and passively so they can properly care for their eye health.
Brainstorming + Ideation
After conducting our research and outlining a problem statement, we decided to come up with a solution that helps Gen Z passively learn about eye care while also providing a discount to those seeking eye care help. From our research, we learned that Gen Z did not want another app, had little knowledge of how to take care of their eye health, and spent a lot of time on their mobile phones. From this, we created Eye Thrive. Eye Thrive is a project initiative that collaborates with influencers to spread information about eye care and allows eye doctors to offer discounts to those seeking eye care. After figuring out our solution, we started brainstorming logos, branding, website prototypes, and marketing tactics!
Final Branding + Logos!
When brainstorming our branding, we wanted to create a logo that was relatable, energetic, friendly, and authentic to appeal to Gen Z. We decided to go with the name Eye Thrive because we wanted our audience to feel as though they could improve their eye health and "thrive". The colors we chose were in alignment with Alcon's branding, as well as the message we wanted to convey as well. Our icon adds a sense of joy and energy while also representing what Eye Thrive is.
Influencer Marketing & Tik Tok

The Figma prototype
After our users view the videos, we plan for influencers to have a link in their bio to link to the Eye Thrive website, where they will be able to access a map to look for a doctor offering a discount on an eye exam in their area. We want users to also learn more about their eye health, so we included a section on the website to read articles about healthy eye habits.

After completing the EyeThrive app and filming all our marketing videos, we presented in front of a representative from Alcon. A huge thank you to my wonderful team members and to Professor McKinney for a great semester!
